Spring and Summer 2013 Classes

All classes below take place at Joann Fabrics And Crafts, 49 Topsham Fair Mall Rd, Topsham, Maine unless noted otherwise!

To register for any Joann class, call the store at (207) 373-1465 and remember most classes go on sale for 50% a couple times each month!  Call to request a catalog.  Sewing machines are provided but it is suggested that you bring your own.

FREE MOTION QUILTING   0ne 3 hour session, offered twice 

DATES AND TIMES:  Tuesday April 30, 5:30-8:30pm and Thursday August 1, 5:30-8:30pm

Learn the basics of free motion quilting.  Learn how to get started, practice loop-d-loops, swirls, stippling, and writing your name in cursive.  Must have a darning foot attachment for your machine.

 

SEWING BASICS 101  one 2.5 hour session, offered atleast twice per month, ongoing

Learn the very basics of sewing.  How to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, sew straight and curved seams, topstitch, read a basic pattern, and more.

 

UP-CYCLED SWEATER PURSE  one 3 hour session, offered three times

DATES AND TIMES:  Wednesday May 8th 5:45-8:45pm;  Monday May 20th 5:45-8:45pm;  Saturday June 1st 4:00-7:00

Cut up on old cable knit sweater and turn it into a trendy purse.

 

CROCHET 202 GRANNY SQUARE  one 3 hour session, offered three times

DATES AND TIMES:  Saturday May 11th 4:30-7:30pm;  Thursday May 16th 12:00-3:00pm; Friday June 14th 12:00-3:00pm

Learn how to read a crochet chart (along with a written pattern) to construct a hexagonal, multi-colored granny square.

 

CHUNKY BUTTON BRACELETS  one 2.5 hour session, offered four times

DATES AND TIMES:  Wednesday May 15th 5:45-8:15pm;  Monday May 27th 5:45-8:15pm;  Sunday June 9th 3:15-5:45pm; Wednesday June 26th 5:45-8:15pm

String a one-of-a-kind double stranded bracelet incorporating both beads and buttons.  Learn my secret trick to getting buttons to lay flat when strung with beads.  A great way to use and wear vintage buttons.

 

 

MIXED MEDIA LANDSCAPE COLLAGE  two 3 hour sessions, offered twice

DATES AND TIMES:  Thursdays July 18th & 25th 2:00-5:00pm;  Wednesdays August 21st & 28th 2:00-5:00pm

Learn many different mixed media  techniques to create a one-of-a-kind whimsical landscape using paint, paper, oil pastels, and more. Great for teens and beyond.

 

 

PAINT ‘N’ STITCH CUFFS  One 2.5 hour session, offered twice

DATES AND TIMES:  Tuesday July 23rd 9:30-1:00pm; Tuesday August 27th 9:30-1:00pm

Use fabric paint, trim, a zipper, lace, and bias tape to create a one-of-a-kind wearable work of art.  Make two button toggle closures.  A real rockin’ beauty!

 

 

 

FREE MOTION QUILTED CUFF  one 3 hour session, offered once

DATE AND TIME:  Thursday August 15th 5:30-8:30

Similar to the above cuff except no paint and lots of messy free motion.  This time a faux button closure ( hidden velcro!)

 

KIDS’ SEWING: HEADTIME STORY (PILLOWCASE)  one 3 hour session, offered atleast per month ongoing

DATES AND TIMES:   Saturday May 18th 4:00-7:00pm;  Saturday June 15th 3:30-6:30pm; Thursday June 27th 11:30-2:30pm; Friday July 12th 9:30-12:30pm;  Monday July 22nd 9:30-12:30pm; Monday August 5th 9:30-12:30pm; Saturday August 24th 9:30-12:30pm

Kids ages 8 and up will sew a simple pillowcase from start to finish.  All straight seams with a decorative border.

 

KIDS’ QUILTING 201: BANDANNA QUILT  two 2.5 hour sessions, offered three times

DATES AND TIMES:  Saturdays May 25th & June 1st 3:00-5:30pm;  Mondays July 8th & July 15th 3:00-5:30pm;  Wednesday August 7th & August 14th 10:00-12:30

Kids ages 8 and up will sew a colorful lap quilt using bandannas.  All straights seams  and a tied top.

 

KIDS’ SEWING 202:  CELEBRATION BUNTING  two 2 hour sessions, offered three times

DATES AND TIMES:  Sundays 26th & June 2nd 10:00-12:00pm;  Fridays July 12th & 19th 1:00-3:00pm;  Mondays August 12th & 19th 1:00-3:00pm

Kids 8 and up will sew up an adorable and festive flag bunting very similar to the one below (choosing their own fabric of course!)
