Workshop: Earrings Extravaganza!

I taught “Beaded Earrings Extravaganza” through Merrymeeting Adult Ed last week.   With a few basic instructions on how to make and open wire loops, people were off and running!  Here are a few examples of their work:

For the Love of Bags

We are pet sitting a loud and demanding amazon parrot as well as a mischievous Jack Russell Terrier.   Those two, along with our own sweet little birdy, our genius German Shepherd, two chickens, our fantastic cat and… oh yeah, our two busy kids, life has been a bit shall we say… fast paced.  I have been making art and crafts lately but I’ve had little time to take pics and post.  I will soon be showing off an LOVELY Amy Butler bag (all the pieces are cut and interfaced) but I just haven’t had the time yet to sew it all up.  But soon my dear Cosmos bag, soon we shall be together.

I like shoes and I like a great fitting pair of jeans, but I LOVE bags.  Good quality bags, well made bags, hand made bags… Mmmm… Bags… Jason calls me a bag lady.  It’s just one of his terms of endearment.  Anyways, on a totally different note, I leave you with an amusing picture of my daughter’s tub time:

It’s So Awesome Outside

I’m feeling great about the amazing weather we’re having.  I’ve already been in the garden and have accomplished some pretty major spring cleaning.  My crocuses are a-bloomin’ and I’ve begun another Amy Butler Cosmos Bag in honor of them.  It is full of typical crocus colors; purple, orange, white, and green.  I’ve got big visions of making a bunch of shweeet Amy Butler bags.  We’ll see how far I can get.

My chickens are free ranging and basking in the sun.  Oh how I love the spring!  There’s one downfall:  I found our first tick today, crawling on the dog.  Makes me itch just thinking about it.  But you know what?  I don’t even care because it’s so awesome outside!

I’ve got this perfect Will Ferrell belly going on- like the kind that he had in that Saturday Night Live skit where he played the cowbell as a Blue Oyster Cult member.  He performed Don’t Fear the Reaper with a belly shirt on.  That’s me right now if I were to wear a belly shirt.  But you know what?  I don’t even care because it’s so awesome outside.

We’ve got a very busy week ahead, lots of kid-related evening activities going on.  I’ll barely have time for artsy stuff but you know what?  It’s all okay because it’s so awesome outside.

Dreamy Luggage Tag

So I entered another Cloth Paper Scissors challenge and designed a luggage tag.  I really got into this one.  I designed a collaged scene on a piece of thick chip board (a cigar box lid) and added two crocheted borders around it.  I did this by punching little equi-distant holes all around the edge and adding a chain stitch into them and crocheting into that…I think…Then I stiffened the crocheted border by applying watered down gel medium.  Once dry, I painted the boarder with fabric paint. I thought long and hard about how the tag would attach to the luggage but I simply ended up making a little braided string and slip knotted it through an oval-ish punched hole.  I painted the string using gold fabric paint.

My little luggage tag was chosen along with 19 others to possibly be published in an upcoming issue.  How exciting!!! On a totally different subject:  the weather is really warming up around here and I am so completely thrilled about that!  My crocuses (or is it crocii, seriously?), daffodils, hyacinths, and paper whites are all up.  Oh boy oh boy oh boy.  I am a gardening addict and it’s been 6 months since I’ve had my fix!  Maine, geesh!

Awesome Swap Goodies!

I just received these AMAZING goodies from my friend, Jenny Lee (www.texterial.com).  We recently conducted a bead/pendant/charm swap.  I love all of these- what an amazing gift!  I even tried to copy the purplish-yarn-ball-with-beads-and-wire pendants but failed miserably!  Thank you Jenny, I’m so thrilled with your creations.  I can’t wait to assemble them into jewelry or other artsy things…
